Still Wine
The naturally fermented juice of grapes, unless otherwise specified. More broadly, the term can include alcoholic beverages created from other fruits and even vegetables and grains. Such potables are usually specified with the name of the fruit, as in "apricot wine." Wine has a rich history that has evolved along with that of man. Its historical roots reach back almost 12,000 years. As various cultures spread out into new parts of the world, so did the grapevine and the art of winemaking. Today there are vineyards throughout the world.
Sparkling Wine
Usually white or rose, ranging from very dry ‘brut’ styles to sweeter ‘doux’ versions, Sparkling Wine, or ‘Champagne’ in France, ‘Cava’ in Spain, or ‘Prosecco’ in Italy, is an effervescent wine. The fizz is a result of the significant level of carbon dioxide that comes from natural fermentation whether in a bottle, in a large tank, or as a result of carbon dioxide injection during the creation process.
Port
Produced exclusively in the Douro Valley within the Northern provinces of Portugal, Port or Vinho do Porto is a Portuguese fortified wine. Typically a sweet, red wine, often enjoyed as a dessert wine, Port comes in dry, semi-dry, and white varieties. Under European Union, Protected Designation of Origin guidelines, only the product from Portugal may be labeled as Port.
